Fantasy Football Week 6: Ranking the Wide Receivers

1. Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons

Matching Eagles’ wide out Jeremy Maclin’s NFL-leading 57 targets is once again the top-ranked player heading into another week of fantasy football pandemonium. Jones is currently third in standard scoring amongst receivers, and faces a Bears’ defense that ranks 26th in points allowed to wide receivers. Though he will face a difficult opponent in rookie-corner Kyle Fuller, Jones’ athletic ability and expertise will allow him to continue his streak of five consecutive games with six or more receptions.

Projected Statistics: 11 receptions, 159 yards, two touchdowns

2.  Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos

Being Peyton Manning’s favorite target directly correlates to fantasy greatness as Thomas has proven over the past few seasons. Currently eight in fantasy points amongst receivers despite having a bye week already, Thomas will feast on a Jets secondary that ranks 27th in terms of fantasy points given up to the receiving position.

Projected Statistics: 10 receptions, 150 yards, one touchdown

3.  Alshon Jeffery, Chicago Bears

Averaging over 10 fantasy points per game, Jeffery has emerged as a true WR 1 in all formats. Though Atlanta is a middling team in terms of points allowed to wide receivers as the 15th ranked defense, Jeffery will see his fair share of targets due to the talent in Chicago’s receiving corps and at tight end with Martellus Bennett.

Projected Statistics: Seven receptions, 87 yards, two touchdowns

4. Golden Tate, Detroit Lions

With Megatron away Tate will play as the number one option for Matthew Stafford against a Vikings defense ranked 24th in points given up to wide receivers. Tate has caught at least five passes in every game this season, expect that trend to continue on Sunday.

Projected Statistics: Eight receptions, 115 yards, one touchdown

5. Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers

Antonio Brown just not like the team that shares his namesake. Since his rookie campaign in 2010, Brown has posted at least 87 yards receiving or a touchdown in every contest against the team from Cleveland. Furthermore, the NFL’s fantasy point’s leader at receiver is ranked just 25th against the position this season.

Projected Statistics: 10 receptions, 88 yards, one touchdown

6. Jordy Nelson, Green Bay Packers

Jordy is to Aaron Rodgers as Demaryius is to Peyton, what more do you need to prove that this is a match made in heaven? Currently the second place holder in fantasy points, Nelson has just one game under eight points scored all season, but will face a tough test in the Miami Dolphins who rank 8th in points given up to wide receivers this season.

Projected Statistics: Six receptions, 56 yards, one touchdown

7. Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia Eagles

Currenlty the fouth highest scoring wide out in the game, Maclin will face a tough test in cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie who is one of the few in the league today that can match the speedy Eagles receiver in a foot-race. Though the Giants’ are a tough team for wide receivers ranked 12th against the position in fantasy scoring, Maclin has found the end zone in all but one game this season, so expect that trend to continue Sunday night in Philadelphia.

Projected Statistics: three receptions, 103 yards, one touchdown

8. Emmanuel Sanders, Denver Broncos

While Wes Welker seems to have fallen out of favor with Manning, Sanders has stepped up in a major way with at least 77 yards in each of his team’s games this season. Currently leading the Broncos in catches with 32 and yards with 435, Sanders will produce against a putrid Jets’ secondary and solidify his spot as a top-20 receiver in terms of fantasy football.

Projected Statistics: Eight receptions, 99 yards, one touchdown

9. Julian Edelman, New England Patriots

As was the case with Nelson and Thomas, Edelman is also the favorite target of a Hall of Fame quarterback. Edelman has at least four grabs in each game this season, and averages 8.3 points per game. Furthermore, he will face a Bills defense ranked 13th against wide receivers, but also a team that has given up at least 12 receptions to the position in four of five games this year.

Projected Statistics: Nine receptions, 94 yards

10. Brandon Marshall, Chicago Bears

While battling injury all season, Marshall is still ranked 17th in points amongst wide receivers and should add to that total in what is expected to be a high-scoring affair in Atlanta. Though this match-up is a difficult one on paper, Marshall has the big-play ability to succeed against any opponent.

Projected Statistics: Seven receptions, 102 yards
