1. Drew Brees vs. Tom Brady
This is a battle of two future Hall of Famers. Drew Brees and the undefeated saint roll into New England to take on Tom Brady and the Patriots. Brady has clearly not been himself this season as he ranks outside the top 15 quarterbacks in standard leagues. With a whole new receiving core this season I suppose you can't blame him for having a few struggles. But this week Rob Gronkowski returns and Danny Amendola is one week healthier so expect Brady to turn it around and move the ball around with success.
Brees is the second rank quarterback behind the robot Peyton Manning. The resurgence of the Saints offense has been impressive all season and it will continue in New England. The Patriots defense ranks third to opposing quarterbacks but I don't put any stock into that at all being that the only quality quarterback they faced so far this season was Matt Ryan. Expect this game to be a shootout if Amendola and Gronkowski can play healthy.
Projection
Drew Brees - 355 passing yards, four touchdowns, one interception
Tom Brady - 294 passing yards, three touchdowns, one interception
2. Andrew Luck vs. Philip Rivers
Rivers has finally performed as the fantasy quarterback he used to be years ago. The top five fantasy quarterback hosts the burning hot Indianapolis Colts. Since the starting running back in Ryan Mathews is out with injury, expect Rivers to keep airing the ball out like he did last week vs the Raiders. Keep in mind though that the more he throws, the more chances there are of the Colts defense snagging an interception. Rivers threw three picks last week and he may have a few again this week. Luck is playing like an elite fantasy quarterback. If he is on your fantasy team and you are not starting him then you are insane. Especially this week since he plays one of the worst fantasy defenses in the NFL in the Chargers. They have given up ten passing touchdowns so far this year with only one interception. Luck will continue his hot streak this week with an exceptional performance.
Projections:
Andrew Luck - 310 passing yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions
Philip Rivers - 383 passing yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions
3. Jordy Nelson vs. Torrey Smith
Nelson has been slowly decreasing his fantasy stats every week since week one but his targets are still there. He is going up against a Ravens defense that has been underperforming this year without Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. And with Aaron Rodgers of tossing him the ball, Nelson could be in luck for a good fantasy day. But be aware with James Jones and Randall Cobb also performing well, they can cut into Nelsons targets and receptions. Torrey Smith has been a huge for fantasy owners this year. He averages over 100 yards per game but with only a single touchdown. He is very consistent and that's what we look for as fantasy owners. He will get his yards vs this weak Green Bay defense and hopefully more activity in the endzone.
Projections:
Jordy Nelson - Five receptions, 76 yards, one touchdown
Torrey Smith - Seven receptions, 105 yards, one touchdown
4. Hakeem Nicks vs. Alshon Jeffery
Finally Nicks has shown up and achieved some decent fantasy numbers for the first time since week one. He hasn't found the endzone yet this season but hopefully he can change that. Since the Giants have no running game and no defense, expect them to be throwing the ball like crazy as usual which means Nicks will get more targets and hopefully more yards and receptions. Since he hasn't reached the endzone yet, I would say he is more valuable in PPR leagues. Jeffery has been the surprise of the fantasy world these past two weeks. Every week he is becoming a larger and larger asset to Jay Cutler and this Bears offense. As stated earlier, the Giants defense is god awful and the Bears receivers will have a good fantasy day especially for Jeffery if the Giants double cover Brandon Marshall. If Jeffery can stay a major role in this offense, expect the Bears to win big.
Projections:
Hakeem Nicks - Five receptions, 70 yards, zero touchdowns
Alshon Jeffery - Seven receptions, 95 yards, one touchdown
5. Chris Johnson vs Marshawn Lynch
This would be a more intriguing matchup if Johnson has been playing up to fantasy expectations. He isn't having a bad season but it sure isn't what we want since he has no rushing touchdowns all year. And I do not think that will change against this Seahawks defense especially since it is in Seattle. The Seahawks although are only average against the run so if the Titans decide to keep handing him the rock, it could work out well. Lynch on the other hand has not been a disappointment this year. He has been full on "Beast Mode" the past two weeks and will likely continue against an average Titans run defense. If the Seahawks can get a lead early in the game, expect them to pound the ball with the beast which could serve to be a good fantasy day for Lynch.
Projections:
Chris Johnson - 50 rushing yards, 20 receiving yards, no touchdowns
Marshawn Lynch - 90 rushing yards, 15 receiving yards, one touchdown
