Fantasy Football Week One: Start These Quarterbacks

As most fantasy football owners know, it is important to look at matchups and games when drawing a conclusion about who to start. For example. if you have Matt Ryan as your QB1 but the Atlanta Falcons are going up against the Houston Texans, you might want to start your backup QB option that week.

Of course there are some players that you simply cannot sit. An example being first-round fantasy draft picks. If you are selecting someone in that initial round, you need to be able to rely on them consistently throughout the season.

Today’s article is going to focus on five quarterbacks that you should definitely suit up.

Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins

The New Orleans Saints don’t exactly possess the best pass defense in the National Football League. They don’t have a true No. 1 cornerback and tend to struggle a great deal on the back end.

That being said, the idea of starting a rookie quarterback making his NFL debut probably doesn’t make a great deal of sense, at least on the surfuce.

If you look further at this game, it makes perfect sense to suit RGIII up. You can expect a high scoring game between New Orleans and Washington with the latter most likely playing from behind a great deal.

I an easily envision 300 total yards and two touchdowns or the reigning Heisman Trophy Award Winner in his initial NFL game.

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

As good as the San Francisco 49ers were on defense last season their secondary still has some concerns. These issues were magnified against the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning a couple weeks ago. If they are unable to get consistent pressure on Aaron Rodgers, you can expect the Super Bowl winning quarterback to pick apart the 49ers secondary.

It is reasonable to believe that Rodgers will be able to put up 300 or more yards and at least two touchdowns.

Alex Smith, San Francisco 49ers

Look at it this way. Either the 49ers are going to fall behind early and be forced to pass the ball or Smith and the passing game will be one of the primary reasons they start quickly out of the gate against the Green Bay Packers. Either way, I would definitely recommend starting him if your QB1 option is going up against a less than ideal opponent.

Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore’s pass offense looked great throughout the preseason. It seems that Flacco is more comfortable in the pocket and progressing through his reads. It also helps that he is going to have a ton of receiving weapon through the air. Ed Dickson, Dennis Pitta and Torrey Smith all seem to be progressing as targets.

The Ravens go up against a mediocre Cincinnati Bengals defense at home on Monday night. Sure does seem that they will have success through the air.
