Fantasy Football Week Two: Sit These Three Rookies

Earlier today I focused on some rookies that you might want to consider starting this week. Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III promise to provide you with consistent fantasy outputs. Meanwhile, you can sure bet other rookie quarterbacks will struggle. This is why a majority of them are not even on standard league’ fantasy rosters.

That being said, this list includes two running backs that I am extremely high on, but don’t like the matchups they have this week.

Let’s have a look-see.

1. Doug Martin, Running Back, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I have been an advocate of Martin since the end of his 2011 season at Boise State. The young running back is going to be extraordinary in every possible way. Just not against the New York Giants this weekend. Tampa Bay will be going up against a defense that might have been blitzed by DeMarco Murray and the Dallas Cowboys last week, but have a lot to prove.

It is also to be expected that Tampa Bay won’t be in a position to play with a lead for the majority of the game like they were against the Carolina Panthers last week. This gives Martin less opportunity in the gun game.

Instead of going with the young running back, I recommend you make the decision to start someone of the caliber of Frank Gore or Steven Jackson here.

2. David Wilson, Running Back, New York Giants

You don’t find yourself in Tom Coughlin’s doghouse only to squeeze your way out of the sun-roof the following week...It just doesn’t happen. This is the situation that the rookie from Virginia Tech finds himself in after fumbling in his NFL debut against the Dallas Cowboys last week.

Don’t expect Wilson to get a bunch of touches. Even if he does, New York is going up against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense that allowed a total of 10 rushing yards against Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.

Sit this guy right next to you on that fluffy green sofa Sunday morning. C’Mon, you know you have one.

3. Russell Wilson, Quarterback, Seattle Seahawks

There are some who have Wilson as their primary QB2 option in standard leagues. To all of those who don’t, ignore the rest of this article.

Wilson will not make a fantasy impact against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. In fact, I think he might struggle even putting up double-digit fantasy points. How much confidence can we have in Braylon Edwards and Sidney Rice, among others, getting open against the likes of Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne. Additionally, Pete Carroll and Co. don’t seem to be doing their quarterback any favors with conservative game management.
