Many remained hopeful Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette would suit up in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts, it now seems Jacksonville will play it safe with its best player. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday night that Fournette is now expected to miss Sunday's game due to his ankle injury in advance of the team's upcoming bye week.
It's a decision that makes sense for the franchise. A fourth-overall pick is a significant investment in a running back and given the success Fournette has had already, it's in the team's best interest in this season and long-term to give him the additional rest and make sure his ankle doesn't limit him over the entire season.
Of course, this news does come as a blow for fantasy owners. A matchup against Indianapolis made Fournette a top-three running back in Week 7 and an opportunity to post another 100-plus yard game and find the end zone. Instead, Chris Ivory will be asked to slide in as Jacksonville's lead running back against the Colts.
Ivory should immediately be picked up if he is available in your fantasy leagues and started in this matchup. Jacksonville featured him heavily in the passing attack last week as he finished with nine receptions for 74 yards. On the season, Ivory has 305 total yards and has displayed his abiity to be effective both carrying the football and catching it out of the backfield. He should see 15-plus touches in this game and because Jacksonville will also trust him near the goal line, fantasy owners won't need to fear him being taken off the field when Jacksonville nears the end zone.
A strong RB2 play, make sure to get shares of Ivory in DFS and in your season-long leagues. Following Jacksonville's bye next week, Fournette should be more than ready to resume his role as the team's featured back.
