Fantasy Impact of Texans Naming Tom Savage Starting Quarterback

The Houston Texans have officially named Tom Savage their starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. Savage replaced the ineffective and expensive Brock Osweiler under center on Sunday, completing 23-of-36 passes for 260 yards en route to leading his team back against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

We can't say with reasonable certainty that Savage's performance wasn't an outlier. In reality, the sample size just isn't there. What we do know is that Osweiler proved to be completely inept under center, which had a negative impact on DeAndre Hopkins' ability to be fantasy relevant.

At the very least, that should change to an extent.

Hopkins finished Sunday's win with eight receptions for 87 yards on 17 targets. The vast majority of his success came with Savage, not Osweiler under center. With a home game coming up against a struggling Cincinnati Bengals defense, we wouldn't caution against starting Hopkins in your fantasy football championship. This, despite the fact that some have found the need to bench him in the past.

As it relates to Savage, he's not a fantasy relevant option. Even if Hopkins shows the ability to put up numbers, that's likely not going to translate to fantasy success for Savage.
