It might seem like a minor deal on the surface with free agency set to start next week, but the San Francisco 49ers locked up their leading receiver from a season ago.
The team announced on Saturday that it has re-signed Jeremy Kerley to a three-year contract. The deal is said to be worth $10.5 million.
Last season saw Kerley put up 64 receptions for 667 yards and three touchdowns. This, despite the fact that San Francisco's offense was among the worst in the NFL.
From a fantasy standpoint, there's just too many factors to draw a real conclusion here. Common sense tells us that Kerley might have some fantasy impact under Kyle Shanahan in 2017. That's until we realize the 49ers don't have a quarterback on their roster.
Linked to Jimmy Garoppolo, Tony Romo and Kirk Cousins, that could change here soon. If it does, Kerley should be an under-the-radar play in larger leagues as the 49ers' top slot receiver. At this point, it's a wait-and-see approach.
