After initial concerns surrounding his availability for a Week 14 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is fully expected to suit up and take the first snap under center. ESPN' Adam Schefter first reported the news on Saturday night.
Stafford suffered an injury to his throwing hand in Week 13 when a defender stepped on his hand. Due to the spikes piercing into his hand, Stafford ended up with a bruise and some nerve irritation in his hand. Detroit Lions beat writers painted a positive picture for Stafford's availability after practice on Friday, Schefter's report further adds to the certainty Stafford will play.
The matchup is outstanding for Stafford. Tampa Bay's defense rates as the second-worst unit against the pass in the NFL this season with 3,308 passing yards allowed. In addition, Tampa Bay's secondary doesn't possess the necessary cover cornerbacks to match up against Golden Tate and Marvin Jones.
While Stafford's hand may provide some problems and Tampa Bay will try and go after his hand in this game, Stafford's track record throughout his career demonstrates an extremely tough player who battles through multiple injuries and continues to perform. Stafford is on the DFS radar and registers as a top-five quarterback play this weekend. Fire up Jones and Tate in DFS leagues and as top-15 wide receivers today.
