Fantasy Slant: Andre Johnson to the Indianapolis Colts

The busy first week of NFL Free Agency rolls on for the Indianapolis Colts. A day after signing Frank Gore and #Trent Cole, the Colts brought in another weapon for Andrew Luck. Just days after the division foe Houston Texans released him, Indianapolis scooped up Andre Johnson quickly.

While Johnson drew plenty of attention from across the league, he felt catching passes from Luck and being reunited with Gore was incentive enough to sign with the Colts. Credit to Indianapolis for surrounding Luck with more help to push for a deeper playoff run and helping some fantasy owners as well.

We know the Colts love throwing the football, this team is carried by Luck and the passing game will only improve now that they have a true threat at running back. While T.Y. Hilton remains the top receiving option on this offense and Luck likes to spread the ball around, Johnson will see plenty of targets as the Colts number-two receiver.

Playing through multiple injuries and looking visibly worn down and slow as a result, Reggie Wayne still managed to finish the season with 64 receptions for 779 receiving yards in 15 games. While Johnson is no longer his old self, as evidenced by Houston parting ways with him, he is a much better player at this point than Wayne. He will line up opposite of Hilton and see plenty of opportunities versus single coverage.

Indianapolis will likely decrease it's passing attempts from the 600's this season, but 550-580 pass attempts is still a very realistic number. While Johnson won't see the 140-plus targets he had in Houston, he now has a better quarterback and can still put up a 75/900/5 split in his 13th season.
