Fantasy Slant: Colts Re-sign TE Jack Doyle

Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle was among the most-surprising fantasy performers in 2016.

After putting up a combined 35 receptions in his first three seasons, Doyle ended up tallying 59 receptions for 584 yards and five touchdowns this past year. It was good enough for him to finish as a top-end TE2 option in standard 12-team leagues.

It also earned the former Tennessee Titans undrafted free agent a nice little payday just a couple days prior to free agency. Instead of letting Doyle hit the open market, Indy signed the up-and-coming pass catcher to a three-year, $19.5 million contract with nearly $10 million guaranteed.

We're not too sure if Doyle's 2016 production was his ceiling. Indy still boasts Dwyane Allen at tight end, and Doyle's nearly 10 percent touchdown rate was likely an outlier of sorts.

Still, he caught nearly 80 percent of the passes thrown in his direction and has built a strong relationship with Andrew Luck. That should lead to some discussion about Doyle being a potential TE1 option in 2017.
