Fantasy Slant: Marshawn Lynch Confirms Retirement

Former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch confirmed on Showtime's "60 Minutes Sports" that he is indeed officially retired from the National Football League.

There had been some questions regarding whether Lynch would actually stay away from the game after initially announcing his retirement on Twitter during Super Bowl 50 back in February.

He pretty much put an end to that over the weekend.

The retirment of Lynch, 30, leaves a huge void in Seattle's backfield.

Remember, 2015 breakout star Thomas Rawls suffered a serious leg injury late in his rookie season. The expectation here is that he won't be back at any point during the preseason.

This leaves rookie third-round pick C.J. Prosise as the player likely to take over Seattle's starting job should Rawls not return to full health. That's going to be a major issue for Russell Wilson and Co. heading into the 2016 season.

As it relates to Prosise, he's a solid add in re-draft contests based on Rawls' injury history. In fact, there's top-15 overall fantasy upside, especially in PPR-heavy leagues. The only issue here is projection. If Rawls proves himself to be healthy, Prosise becomes nothing more than a bottom-tier bench option.

There's also some train of thought suggesting that Seattle may look at the free agent market to add a veteran running back. Former Houston Texans Pro Bowler Arian Foster remains available.
