In an under-the-radar blockbuster move, the New England Patriots have sent backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts for young wide receiver Phillip Dorsett.
Both players were seemingly not long on their former team, with reports surfacing recently that New England was set to move on from its third-strong quarterback and the Colts looking to trade their former first-round pick.
This fills a need for both teams.
New England needed some more depth at wide receiver Julian Edelman done for the season to a torn ACL. Look for Dorsett to start his career with the defending champs behind Brandin Cooks, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola and potentially Malcolm Mitchell. This means he's not really a fantasy relevant-option over the short term.
But in terms of Dorsett's dynasty outlook, it's improved a great deal. A 2015 first-round pick from Miami, Dorsett recorded 51 receptions for 753 yards in two seasons with the Colts. He'll be helped out a whole heck of a lot by the presence of Tom Brady in New England.
As it relates to the Colts, they find an upgrade over Scott Tolzien under center should Andrew Luck (as expected) miss the early part of the season. Luck has yet to see action after undergoing off-season shoulder surgery.
Brissett, a third-round pick of the Pats back in 2016, started two games for the team as a rookie last season. He completed 62 percent of his passes for 400 yards without a touchdown or an interception. The youngster is coming off a preseason finale with New England that saw him complete 28-of-39 passes for 341 yards with five total touchdowns. He could very well be the Colts' opening week starter against the Los Angeles Rams.
