Fantasy Slant: Texans Trade Brock Osweiler to the Browns

In an absolutely stunning move on the first day of NFL free agency, the Houston Texans sent free agent bust Brock Osweiler packing to the Cleveland Browns after one disastrous season with the team.

In order to give Cleveland incentive to pick up the remainder of the four-year, $72 million deal Osweiler signed with Houston last season, The Texans gave up a sixth-round pick in this year's draft and a second-round pick in 2017. They also received a 2017 fourth rounder from Cleveland in said deal.

We're not entirely too sure what to make of this from a fantasy perspective. Will Osweiler remain on the Browns? Could he be traded? If not, will the high-priced quarterback be released? If none of that happens, there's a small chance Osweiler could act as a stopgap option for the Browns next season.

Osweiler, 26, put up 2,957 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 14 starts for the Texans last season. He was not a viable fantasy option, even with the likes of Lamar Miller and DeAndre Hopkins flanking him on offense.

It stands to reason that Osweiler would not be a fantasy-relevant option should he find himself as the Browns' starter next season. Sure Cleveland added Kenny Britt to the mix on Thursday, but it could also be on the verge of losing Terrelle Pryor to free agency.

More than anything, this might have been the first domino to fall.

Cleveland, long interested in Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, now has two first and second-round picks this year. It also boasts a first rounder and three second-round selections in the 2018 NFL Draft. Could that be enough to lure Garoppolo way from the defending champs.

Meanwhile, by moving Osweiler, Houston saved $10 million against the cap and could be in the market for a quarterback. Said quarterback might very well be former Pro Bowler Tony Romo.

This is definitely something to keep an eye on as free agency itself plays out.
