Fantasy Slant: Week 2 NFL Injury Round Up

Tony Romo Quarterback, Dallas Cowboys

This one hurts. Romo, who landed awkwardly on his left side against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, suffered a broken left clavicle (collarbone) and is out for 8-10 weeks. The likelihood here is that Dallas will place Romo on the short-term injured reserve, meaning that he will be eligible to return on Thanksgiving Day. Either way, this is a huge blow to the Cowboys with Dez Bryant also slated to miss at least the next two months.

From a fantasy perspective, Brandon Weeden is nowhere near a decent add after Romo's injury. Based on Yahoo Sports ownership numbers, the best-case waiver-wire adds could be Derek Carr and Jameis Winston — a dramatic drop from Romo's production over the years.

Jay Cutler, Quarterback, Chicago Bears

Cutler left Sunday's loss against the Arizona Cardinals after throwing a first half interception. In what first appeared to be a shoulder injury, Cutler was diagnosed with a hamstring injury by Bears medical professionals. He didn't return to action. There are some questions regarding what exactly happened with Cutler. He landed face first on a tackle attempt following the interception, leading many to believe the Bears aren't being too truthful regarding the injury. In reality, it did look like an upper-body issue. In any event, Cutler's status for next week remains up in the air.

At this point, it might be a safe bet to assume Jimmy Clausen will start. If that's the face, no one outside of Matt Forte is really a fantasy option, especially with Alshon Jeffery still dealing with a hamstring injury.

Eddie Lacy, Running Back, Green Bay Packers

Lacy suffered an ankle injury early in Green Bay's win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night. He was carted off the field for X-rays in the locker room, at which point tests came back negative as it relates to a broken ankle. This doesn't mean that Lacy is out of the woods yet. Depending on the severity of the ankle sprain, the Packers lead dog could miss multiple weeks of action. Depending on Lacy's status moving forward this week, James Starks might become a decent short-term add. The veteran put up over 110 total yards against the Seahawks on Sunday night.

Tevin Coleman, Running Back, Atlanta Falcons

Coleman suffered a rib injury against the New York Giants on Sunday. He was carted off the field shortly after scoring a touchdown — a continuation of what had been a solid early-season performance from the rookie. While there are no further updates on Coleman's injury, it seems like he's at east going to miss next week's game against the Dallas Cowboys. Through two games, Coleman has put up 112 yards and a score on 29 attempts.

Jordan Cameron, Tight End, Miami Dolphins

Cameron left Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a groin injury. While there are no updates regarding where he stands, groin injury can be tricky, especially for those tasked with getting off the line of scrimmage. It will be interesting to see the reports out of Miami this week.

Minor Injury Notes

Lamar Miller of the Miami Dolphins suffered an ankle injury in the team's Week 2 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. While Miller didn't return to the game, he indicated that he could have easily taped it up and played. Miller also said after the game that he's good to go.

Carlos Hyde left Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a head injury. Immediately after he went to the locker room, the running back was evaluated for a concussion. Cleared to play later in the second half, San Francisco kept Hyde out of the game as a precaution. That likely had more to do with San Francisco being down multiple scores than Hyde's ability to play. He will be fine next week.
