Fantasy Spin: Titans Trade WR Dorial Green-Beckham to Eagles

The Tennessee Titans sent a message on Tuesday morning as they shipped out wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, a 2015 second-round pick whose effort and work ethic were often question. Tennessee found him a fresh start with the Philadelphia Eagles and in exchange will receive swing tackle Dennis Kelly.

The trade has a noticeable fantasy impact on the Eagles' wide receiver corps, though it may not have as much impact on Tennessee's wide receiver corps as some would initially think.

First, we'll look at this from the Titans' perspective. While many wanted Green-Beckham to emerge as a key starting receiver for the Titans, reports out of camp indicated he was far from that. On August 9, Titans HC Mike Mularkey told reporters he wanted to see more effort from Green-Beckham "when nobody is watching, do it yourself." The on Aug. 14, Mularkey came out after the team's first game and said DGB remained inconsistent.

As of Monday, Green-Beckham remained on the second-team depth chart and it seemed he was not going to climb up into a starting role as of yet. Rookie Tajae Sharpe had already seemed to pass him and that should be even clearer now that DGB is out of town. With Kendall Wright in the slot, Sharpe and Rishard Matthews on the outside, all this really movement wise is that Andre Johnson might move up to the fourth receiver spot and he should still be avoided in fantasy.

From the Eagles' perspective, it is clear they still view Green-Beckham well enough that they think a fresh start can see him live up to his physical potential. Green-Beckham will join another lackluster receiver group in Philadelphia, though he will be given every chance to try and earn a starting opportunity.

Jordan Matthews is already established as Philadelphia's No.1 receiver, but the No2 gig is open. Rueben Randle has been an absolute dud with beat writers and reports citing a complete lack of effort in games and at practice. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Monday that Nelson Agholor was the projected starter by default.

This trade does cloud some of Agholor's fantasy appeal a bit and means he will have more of a challenge to be a starting receiver, but he was a flier in fantasy even before this. The same can be said for Green-Beckham, who has all they physical talent to be a great fantasy receiver, but a lack of effort and consistency kept him from putting it all together. As of right now, Green-Beckham should be nothing more than a late-round flier in fantasy until he can show consistency.
