Five Most Surprising Fantasy Receivers of 2016

1. Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers

Adams entered this season as an afterthought following a disastrous sophomore season that saw him record less than 500 receiving yards and tally 5.1 yards per target. Simply put, it looked like he was going to fall out of favor in Green Bay. In fact, there was even some talk about the team waiving him.

Now, heading into Week 16, Adams is the 10th-ranked fantasy receiver. He's put up 65 receptions for 922 yards and nine touchdowns. Yes folks, Adams is now averaging 8.8 yards per target. Talk about an amazing turnaround here. The one thing Adams needs to work on (outside of drops) is consistency. He's the 18th-most consistent fantasy receiver heading into Week 16.

2. Michael Crabtree, Oakland Raiders

Crabtree was solid for the Raiders in his first season with the team, tallying 85 receptions for 922 yards and nine touchdowns. That was good enough for him to finish as a bottom end WR2 in 12-team leagues. That said, no one really expected Crabtree to somehow exceed that performance with the emergence of second-year receiver Amari Cooper. He's proven us all wrong.

The former San Francisco 49ers first-round pick heads into Week 16 as the ninth-best fantasy receiver. He's caught 61 percent of the passes thrown in his direction and boasts a tremendous 10.4 percent touchdown rate. Oh, Crabtree is also the eighth-most consistent fantasy receiver in the league. Not too shabby.

3. Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints

Heading into 2016, it was all about Brandin Cooks in New Orleans. And while the Saints did exhaust a second-round pick on this former second-round pick, no one expected him to make much of an impact as a rookie. With Cooks, Willie Snead and free-agent signing Coby Fleener in the mix, Thomas was expected to be the fourth option in the passing game.

Instead, he's taken over as Drew Brees' favorite target with Cooks himself potentially looking to be on the outs. Despite missing one game to injury, Thomas heads into Week 16 as the 16th-best fantasy receivers. He's caught 76 passes for 883 yards and eight touchdowns while boasting an absurd 77 percent of the passes thrown in his direction this season. That's just ridiculous.

4. Terrelle Pryor, Cleveland Browns

This time last year, Pryor wasn't even in the NFL. This time two years ago, he was a quarterback. Really, just think about the progression this young man has made in just a short period of time. While existing on a winless team that's gone through FIVE quarterbacks this season, Pryor has put up 67 receptions for 877 yards and four touchdowns. Not tremendous numbers for a No. 1 receiver, but absolutely amazing given the conditions.

Pryor is also ranked 18th among receivers in both fantasy points and fantasy consistency, continually proving himself to be reliable in the fake football world.

5. Kenny Britt, Los Angeles Rams

Much like Pryor, Britt is in what is seemingly an unattainable situation. Here's a dude that was first forced to catch passes from Case Keenum. Then only after Keenum proved himself inept, did the Rams go with an unprepared rookie in Jared Goff.

Despite all this, Britt heads into Week 16 as the 18th-best fantasy receiver. Should he have two more decent games, Britt will likely amass 1,100 receiving yards. Not too bad for the league's worst passing offense. Now, imagine how he'd perform with a capable quarterback. Whew.
