The biggest story around the NFL heading into Monday was what appears to be a torn ACL that Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles suffered against the Chicago Bears. Though, there are a few different injuries to focus on following NFL Week 6 action.
Here are the latest updates.
Blake Bortles, Quarterback, Jacksonville Jaguars
Bortles suffered a sprained throwing shoulder in Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The good news here is that the second-year quarterback played through the injury and was darn impressive doing so. He's expected to be just fine. Though, as we have seen with shoulder injuries to quarterbacks this season, nothing is a given. Schefter's "diagnosis" may be of concern.
Justin Forsett, Running Back, Baltimore Ravens
Forsett had to exit Sunday's game against the Browns with an ankle injury. While it's too early in the week to tell whether he will play next week, head coach John Harbaugh said on Monday that he has a good chance to play against the San Francisco 49ers next week.
Cierre Wood, Running Back, Buffalo Bills
Wood suffered a torn ACL Sunday against the Tennessee Titans and was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Monday. With both LeSean McCoy and Karlos Williams still sidelined, this could be a big deal. Depth is certainly lacking at running back in Buffalo. The expectation here has to be that Rex Ryan and Co. will bring in a veteran reinforcement during the week.
Jacquizz Rodgers, Running Back, Chicago Bears
Rodgers suffered a season-ending arm injury against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. He was immediately placed on injured reserve, at which point Chicago signed former Atlanta Falcons running back Antone Smith.
T.J. Yeldon, Running Back, Jacksonville Jaguars
Yeldon exited Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a groin injury. While the team is indicating his injury isn't serious, any time you hear groin and running back in the same sentence, it's important to pay attention. Definitely something to keep an eye on as the week progresses.
Jamaal Charles, Running Back, Kansas City Chiefs
As you likely already know, Charles suffered a torn ACL against the Chicago Bears. He will be placed on season-ending injured reserve at some point this week. Check out this link for an in-depth breakdown of the injury and what it means for Kansas City's backfield.
Reggie Bush, Running Back, San Francisco 49ers
Bush attempted to give it a go against the Giants on Sunday, but exited after just a handful of snaps. He's been dealing with a calf injury all season. Head coach Jim Tomsula indicated on Monday that Bush's status for next week against Baltimore is up in the air.
Marques Colston, Wide Receiver, New Orleans Saints
As if the Saints needed something else to worry about after a 1-4 start to the season. Colston suffered a separated shoulder against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday — an injury that could have also caused some structural damage. Needless to say, this is at least a multi-week injury. It could also keep the veteran out for the remainder of the year.
Julio Jones, Wide Receiver, Atlanta Falcons
Jones was slowed by a hamstring in the Falcons win over Washington on Sunday. He caught just five of the 10 passes thrown in his direction despite playing the entire game. This led to speculation that Jones' injury was more serious than originally anticipated. The star receiver didn't practive on Monday and may not be a go against the New Orleans Saints come Thursday. With a short week between games, it might make sense for the undefeated Falcons to rest him against their hapless division rivals.
Rueben Randle, Wide Receiver, New York Giants
Randle went down with a hamstring injury late in Sunday night's win over the 49ers. He didn't return to action. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said on Monday that he hopes Randle will get in limited practice this week. New York takes on the Philadelphia Eagles next Monday night, which will give Randle an extra day of rest.
Odell Beckham, Wide Receiver, New York Giants
Unlike Randle, Beckham was able to return to Sunday's game after suffering a fourth quarter hamstring injury. Though, this has to be of utmost concern for a Giants team that has been relying a great deal on the second-year pass catcher. Hamstring injuries can be tricky. They are also the type of injuries that can impact a player's explosiveness — something Beckham relies on. As with Randle, Coughlin indicated that he's hopeful Beckham will get in limited practice during the week.
Nate Solder, Offensive Tackle, New England Patriots
Solder suffered an elbow injury against the Dallas Cowboys and didn't return to action. He was seen in the locker room after the game telling reporters that there's nothing wrong there. Solder is, however, set for an MRI this week.
Chris Long, Defensive End, St. Louis Rams
Long suffered a hyper-extended left knee in Sunday's loss against the Green Bay Packers. He's slated to miss a week or two. But with the Rams entering a bye, Long might be able to go in their next outing in Week 7.
Demarcus Ware, Linebacker, Denver Broncos
Ware injured his back against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday and didn't return to the game. What looked to be a serious injury at the time will likely keep the pass rusher out for the next two weeks. Rookie Shane Ray should see increased playing time with the veteran out.
Shea McClellin, Linebacker, Chicago Bears
McClellin, who has played a more important role in Vic Fangio's defense this year, suffered what looked to be a serious knee injury Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. He was carted off to the locker room and didn't return. Bears head coach John Fox — keeping with the team's MO of slighting the media — refused to comment on the severity of the injury on Monday.
Nick Perry, Linebacker, Green Bay Packers
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy refused to elaborate on the shoulder injury that forced Perry from the team's game against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Though, the head coach did give out injury reports regarding both B.J. Raji and T.J. Lang — an indication that Perry could be out for some time. Already thin on talent at linebacker, this could be a big blow for the Packers.
Dont'a Hightower, Linebacker, New England Patriots
Hightower exited Sunday with a rib injury and didn't return. Per usual, the Patriots are keeping tight lipped regarding the injury. Though, there should be updated information available at some point within the next few hours. At the very least, Hightower's practice status will be known.
Elvis Dumervil, Linebacker, Baltimore Ravens
Dumervil had to leave the Ravens game this past weekend with a groin injury. There are no official updates regarding his status as of Tuesday morning. Losing him would be a big blow, especially with Terrell Suggs out for the season.
Jon Beason, Linebacker, New York Giants
Beason left Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers in the first quarter with a concussion. He's going to have to pass the league's concussion protocal in order to play Monday night against Philadelphia.
Will Davis, Cornerback, Baltimore Ravens
Davis suffered a torn ACL Sunday against the Browns. After being acquired from the Miami Dolphins last month, the former Utah State standout had found himself among the top-three Ravens corners by the time he was injured. In response, Baltimore signed Shareece Wright, who was just released by San Francisco.
Aqib Talib, Cornerback, Denver Broncos
Talib suffered a hamstring injury against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Though, the Pro Bowl cornerback indicated after the game that all he did was roll it. Talib re-entered the game and seemed to be fine. He's considered day-to-day.
