At some point it is hard to make an argument against numbers as they relate to fantasy football. That time surely has come for Tony Romo. The talented quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys continues to defy his skeptics by putting up consistently great fantasy football numbers.
Romo has put up 35 touchdowns compared to just 11 interceptions over the course of his last 18 starts. During that span he has averaged 264 passing yards.
Consistency as it relates to QB1 options in fantasy football is huge. While a player like Michael Vick or Joe Flacco might provide you with great numbers one week, they will not give you those consistent points you need on a weekly basis through the course of a season.
You don’t have to worry about that with Romo.
Romo has thrown for either 300 yards or two scores in 14 of his last 17 starts. Moreover, he has thrown multiple interceptions twice in those 17 starts.
Dallas also has a favorable schedule as it relates to defenses against the pass. They will be taking on the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Giants, Washington Redskins (twice), Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints throughout the remainder of 2012.
In short, it just makes sense to start Romo no matter who Dallas goes up against on a weekly basis.
In standard leagues with just two quarterbacks you could even make the decision to drop your QB2 option after the Cowboys week five bye. Of course this puts all your bread in the basket that is Romo staying healthy, something that is a concern due to his injury history.
Either way, Romo might be the most valuable fantasy quarterback of the 2012 NFL season. That is simply amazing.
