Julio Jones played 74 snaps for the Atlanta Falcons against the Washington Redskins on Sunday. Obviously slowed by a hamstring injury, Jones caught five passes on 10 targets for 67 yards with a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Following what was, by his standards, a second consecutive substandard performance, it's now being reported that Jones may in fact miss Thursday's game against the New Orleans Saints.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported during Monday Night Football that Jones may not be active for the game. This came on the heels of the star receiver missing practice earlier in the day.
Being forced into action after a short week of rest might not be a good thing for Jones' ability to remain healthy for the remainder of the season. Sitting him against a 1-4 Saints team might be the best decision for head coach Dan Quinn and Co.
We all know how hamstring injuries can linger, and attempting to get production from Jones in a mid-week game while already boasting a 5-0 record might not make the most sense.
Through five games, Jones has tallied 43 receptions for 545 yards and four touchdowns. That would put him on pace for the best statistical season of his career.
