Kirk Cousins Signs One-Year Franchise Tender with Redskins

Kirk Cousins will be under center for at least one more season as the Washington Redskins starting quarterback. On Wednesday, the 2015 breakout star agreed to sign the one-year, $19.5 million franchise tender Washington threw his way earlier in the week.

Cousins, 27, put up a stellar season for the eventual NFC East champion Redskins in 2015, tallying 4,166 passing yards with 34 total touchdowns and just 11 interceptions.

He finished the year as one of the highest-rated starting quarterbacks in the entire NFL.

Despite this stellar performance, there are still questions surrounding Cousins' ability to have sustained success as a starter in the NFL. After all, he had posted a losing record with more interceptions (19) than touchdowns (18) in his first three seasons with Washington. It even got to the point in 2014 where Cousins was benched in favor of both Robert Griffin III and Rex Grossman.

By placing the franchise tag on Cousins, Washington pretty much gave him a large one-year, prove it deal. If Cousins is able to duplicate what we saw this past season, he will be in store for a huge long-term extension following the 2016. Of course, that's if he doesn't somehow sign said extension this offseason.
