Most Surprising Fantasy Running Backs Through Week 10

DeMarco Murray, Tennessee Titans

We have to hand it to Murray for not getting too down following a disastrous 2015 season with the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, in the midst of a fresh start with Tennessee, Murray is reverting back to 2014 form when he earned NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors with the Dallas Cowboys. It really is an amazing thing to behold. Not only is the former Pro Bowler tops among running backs in fantasy points, he ranks third in touch distribution at 36.3 percent and second in fantasy consistency.

These are all signs that Murray will continue to perform at an elite-level moving forward on the season. Adding more fuel to the fire here, he's set to take on some pedestrian defenses in the form of the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears over the past two weeks.

Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys

Maybe we shouldn't be surprised over Elliott's performance as a rookie. We knew the dude was a special talent coming out of Ohio State. We also knew that Dallas boasts the top offensive line in the NFL. Still, what Elliott has done through nine games is absolutely extraordinary.

He's averaging 111.7 rushing yards per game, has already tallied 1,255 total yards from scrimmage (both NFL highs) and is on pace for an absurd 2,231 total yards. Heck, Elliott ranks fourth in tough distribution and third in fantasy consistency. Did we mention the rookie has already put up 10 touchdowns on the year? That all equates to a No. 4 ranking among fantasy running backs this season.

Melvin Gordon, San Diego Chargers

Remember when Gordon didn't score a touchdown as a rookie last season? The bust label was being thrown the way of this Wisconsin product in a wholesale basis. And for good reason. The former first-round pick was absolutely atrocious in his first NFL season. Boy, how things have changed this year.

Gordon heads into Week 11 as the third-best fantasy running back in the game. He's put up 1,184 total yards and 11 touchdowns. Meanwhile, the second-year back ranks fifth in fantasy consistency and first overall in touch distribution. Think about that for a second. A dude that was benched last season is touching the ball 37.7 percent of the time San Diego snaps it this year. That's just absurd.

Frank Gore, Indianapolis Colts

We have to give a shout out the ageless wonder here. It's just amazing to watch the 33-year old Gore continuing to find himself among the game's best. Sure he's put up less than 600 rushing yards in nine games. He might not have the awe-inspiring numbers of those mentioned before him in this article. Heck, Gore is in no way a dynamic back.

Even then, the former Pro Bowler ranks 10th among running backs in fantasy points and has been the seventh-most consistency fantasy running back through the first 10 weeks of the season. Not too shabby for someone San Francisco threw overboard like fish bait.
