Four teams in turmoil return to the gridiron on Sunday ready to make a mark in the race for the NFC East crown. Just one game separates the division-leading Cowboys from Philadelphia and Washington, while the Giants will have a chance to steal one back from Dallas Sunday with a home contest against the Eagles. Week 5 should re-shuffle the standings in the former power-conference within the NFC, and go a long way in determining the future of these four franchises. With the Redskins on a bye, and a division match-up looming, there are only two games to preview in the East this week. The Cowboys will return home after an embarrassing loss at the hands of the Chargers to take on the Denver Broncos, who are no sight for sore eyes in Dallas. The NFC East is open for the taking, but who will step up when it matters most? Week 5 offers enough action to sting the nostrils, and the NFC East is no exception.
Denver Broncos(4-0) at Dallas Cowboys(2-2)
We all knew Peyton Manning was going to be good, but no one knew he was going to start the year on a record-breaking pace. With four wins under Denver’s belt, and Von Miller ‘s return closer with every victory, the Broncos are in line for one of the best seasons in franchise history. Manning has thrown 16 touchdowns and zero interceptions, while the team set a franchise scoring record with 52 points in a win over the visiting Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The boys from Mile High are flying high heading into this weekend’s contest against the Cowboys, but what will Jason Garret and company have in store for the visiting Broncos?
Coming off a disappointing loss in San Diego, a city whose name-translation has been lost for centuries, the Cowboys must regroup and find a rhythm within a talented offensive unit. Though it seems like a century since Dallas was relevant during playoff contention, this year’s crop of players shows the most promise in recent memory; however, if the Cowboys cannot regroup after an expected loss on Sunday, the team will once again be stuck in a glass-case of emotion.
Prediction: Broncos 45 Cowboys 24
Playoff contenders, assemble! The Dallas Cowboys have their most capable offensive unit in recent memory, but it is nothing compared to the firepower the visiting Broncos are brining to the house Jerry Jones built. The man anchoring Denver’s offense is bound for the Hall of Fame, and this loss should be worse than the time a raccoon got in the copier. Peyton Manning’s attack potential is illegal nine countries. They’ve done studies you know? Sixty percent of the time, it works, every time.
Philadelphia Eagles(1-3) at New York Giants(0-4)
According to Eagles defensive coordinator Billy Davis, a capable defense is defined as an old, old wooden ship, possibly of the Civil War era based on his unit’s output through four games. Ranked dead last in yards surrendered, and second to last in points given up, the Eagles defense is lacking in a big way. Furthermore, it is not easy to point out a single problem is Davis’ system rather, the entire thing looks like the remnants of an inter-station gang war from the 2004 film and instant cult-classic Anchorman. If Philadelphia cannot get their worthless excuse of a defense in line, there is no hope for a rebuilding franchise.
Across from the Eagles this weekend will be the New York Giants, who are limping into this contest like Jack Black after getting knocked off his motorcycle by a burrito. The Eagles in this scenario will be the bad man that punted the aforementioned team from New York off a bridge, and the Giants are a sopping wet Baxter, helpless and afraid. While the return of David Diehl will certainly help the Giants, the Eagles should dominate their division rivals, and find a way to win in the Meadowlands.
Prediction: Eagles 38 Giants 33
Victor Cruz you know I don’t speak Spanish! Sunday’s game will be devoid of salsa, and the Eagles should outscore their rivals after a short trip up I-95. With the offensive firepower comparable to any unit in football, matched with an unspectacular opponent with a below-average defense, the Eagles should cruise, pun intended, to victory this weekend. Giants fans will be left asking Tom Coughlin one question: where did you get your clothes, at the toilet store?
