NFL Week 5 Preview: Rams at Eagles

Polar-opposites will collide in this match between two NFC East teams that have had distinctly different fortunes in 2014. Sunday in Philadelphia a first-place Eagles team will take on a Rams group with a third-string quarterback looking to bring his team their second win of the season.

After dropping last week’s game in San Francisco Philadelphia will look to get running back LeSean McCoy back on track. St. Louis will be the perfect game for McCoy’s impending resurgence as the Rams have allowed the most rushing attempts of any team in football on a per-game average.

The Eagles are averaging 30.5 points per game, and should continue to show off their offensive prowess against a team allowing 28.3 points per contest. The only weakness for Philadelphia has been the secondary, where veteran Cary Williams must step up and prove he is capable of combatting with the league’s best. This should be a nice bounce-back week for Williams too, as only Brian Quick stands between Williams and a successful Sunday.

On paper it seems like an uphill battle for the Rams, but the team has had an extra week to prepare due to a bye week. Zac Stacy must produce if St. Louis hopes for a victory, but Philadelphia’s typically- stingy run defense has not been up to par lately allowing 134 yards per contest.

The Eagles are most certainly favorites in this contest, and should improve on their 87 yards per contest rushing average against a Rams team allowing 155 per game. Furthermore, Nick Foles will show that he is the real deal in Philadelphia, and add to his average of 281 passing yards per game. Expect the Eagles to bounce back from their unsuccessful trip to the bay area, and defeat the Rams at home.
