Denver came out strong after the bye week, handing the Arizona Cardinals their first loss of the season in a 41-20 defeat. The 3-1 Broncos will travel to New York to take on the Jets who were shutout 31-0 last Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.
Peyton Manning joined the 500 club last week behind his four touchdown passes; he is now only five away from Brett Favre’s record of 508. Manning and the Broncos offense had a big game last Sunday and will look to build off a few record setting performances against the Jets defense.
For Jets, they continue to struggle as they are now 1-4 heading into a tough game against a good Broncos team. Philip Rivers and the Chargers exposed the New York secondary by throwing in the direction of Antonio Allen, Darrin Walls, and Kyle Wilson. Offensively, they couldn’t get anything done and Rex Ryan pulled Geno Smith for Michael Vick, but Ryan has said Smith will get the start this week.
Players to Watch
Peyton Manning, Quarterback, Broncos
The future Hall of Famer is only five touchdown passes away from tying Favre’s record and will inch closer to being in sole possession of the touchdown record this week. The Jets are really struggling and Manning will look to take advantage of that as well as their weakened secondary. The Broncos quarterback should have another big game this weekend.
Demaryius Thomas, Wide Receiver, Broncos
Thomas had a record setting game last week with eight receptions and a team record 226 yards with two touchdowns. He surpassed Shannon Sharpe’s record set at 214 yards against the Chiefs back in 2002. Thomas will look to have another big game as one of Manning’s favorite targets.
Geno Smith, Quarterback, Jets
After last week’s performance, Smith will look to rebound and earn the trust of his coaching staff. While they don’t have a much better option on the bench in Vick, Smith has to continue to earn his starting position. Following the incident of him missing practice last week and the way he played, there is pressure on him to move the offense and be a leader.
Dee Milliner, Cornerback, Jets
Milliner has missed a lot of play time due to injury, but was back at it last week. Rivers and the Chargers chose not to throw in his direction while exposing the rest of the Jets secondary. Manning will likely use the whole field and has a few more solid targets than Rivers, so Milliner should get some action this week.
Final Prediction: Broncos 48 Jets 10
The Broncos will dominate this game from the get-go. Manning will take advantage of a struggling secondary, while Smith and the Jets offense will find it difficult to score against a tough Denver defense. Broncos take this one easily and improve to 4-1.
