Oakland Sends Terrelle Pryor to Seattle

The late Al Davis’ final draft pick, quarterback Terrelle Pryor, is headed to the Seattle Seahawks.  The Oakland Raiders traded Pryor to the Seahawks on Monday afternoon, getting the deal done before the silver and black began their offseason program on Tuesday.

Oakland received a seventh round draft pick for Pryor, which is better than nothing. As the Raiders continue to rebuild, they could use as many draft picks as possible.

When the Raiders signed Matt Schaub this offseason, it was safe to say the Pryor project was over.  Pryor had some bright moments last season for the silver and black, but showed inconsistency, and just wasn’t what the Raiders needed as they make strides for the future.

Pryor openly stated he wanted to be traded after the Schaub signing, and Reggie McKenzie came through.  If he was unable to make a trade, Pryor would have been released.

Last season Pryor threw for 1,798 yards and seven touchdowns, completing 54.7 percent of his passes in 11 games played. The quarterback also threw 11 interceptions, with a few being crucial.

Pryor wanted to go somewhere where he could be a starting quarterback, instead he’ll go to Seattle, where he’ll battle to make second string as Russell Wilson's backup.

Now, there’s no doubting Pryor’s athleticism, and his talents could be better used if he were willing to play a different position.  If Pete Carroll and the defending Super Bowl Champion Seahawks are able to convince Pryor to play wide receiver, for example, they’ve added yet another offensive weapon.  Pryor has stated he wants to play quarterback and has no plans to switch positions, but he could be far more successful in this league if he were to do so.

Overall, this trade has upside for both teams. The Raiders receive an extra draft pick, while the Seahawks gain a decent quarterback
