Panthers TE Greg Olsen Out 6-8 weeks with broken foot

The Carolina Panthers will be without Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen for up to the next two months after he suffered a broken foot in Sunday's win over the Buffalo Bills.

Olsen was talent out of the game after landing awkwardly on his foot. And while he was originally listed as probable to return, further exams in the locker room showed a broken foot. That diagnoses was confirmed on Monday.

Carolina's next decision will be whether to place Olsen on injured reserve, therefore guaranteeing he will be out the next eight weeks.

Coming off his third consecutive 1,000-yard season, Olsen has proven himself to be Cam Newton's favorite target in Carolina. He's also shown to be right up there with Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kielce as the most consistently good fantasy tight ends in the game.

With Olsen now sidelined over the long term, the Panthers will have to find other options to help improve what has been a questionable passing game through the first two weeks.

Backup tight end Ed Dickson will take Olsen's spot in the starting lineup, but he provides very little in terms of upside from a fantasy perspective.

Instead, we'll definitely see an uptick in targets for both wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin and rookie running back Christian McCaffrey, the latter of whom stands to benefit the most.

McCaffrey has struggled to an extent through his first two regular season NFL games, combining for 129 total yards on 30 touches for an average of less than four yards per touch. Meanwhile, Benjamin has caught 7-of-13 passes for 102 yards through two games.
