The quarterbacks in this division are, all in all, about an average group. They have some top-level quarterbacks and they have some less than average guys as well. Here’s a power ranking of the quarterback groups in the NFC East:
4. Washington Redskins
The Redskins seemingly have no idea who their quarterback of the future is. Robert Griffin III had a good rookie season but has been plagued by injuries and bad decision making ever since. Their coaching staff doesn’t have much faith in Griffin but they don’t have any better option as of right now with Colt McCoy and Kirk Cousins backing him up. With such a question mark at the most important position in football, the Redskins could find themselves floundering at the bottom of the NFC East for quite awhile.
3. Dallas Cowboys
Tony Romo might be one of the most polarizing quarterback in the league. If you asked one group of people if Romo was a top level quarterback they all might say he was. The next group you asked, however, might all say he isn’t. The fact of the matter is that he’s one of the better quarterbacks in the league, but you have to expect him to have some questionable games here and there, similar to Brett Favre when he was with Green Bay. What drops this quarterback group to third in the division is the lack of a serviceable backup. If Romo gets injured, which isn’t all that unlikely given his history, the Cowboys will rely on Brandon Weeden and Dustin Vaughan. That’s a scary thought if you’re a Dallas fan.
2. Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles have more depth than the other teams in this division. What keeps them from the top spot is Sam Bradford having such major injury concerns and their cumulative ceiling is considerably lower than both the Giants’ and Cowboys’ at this position. Although Bradford has such serious concerns about his health, they have a more than serviceable backup in Mark Sanchez. Sanchez certainly isn’t any team’s quarterback of the future but he’s very familiar with the system and can win the Eagles some games if they need him to.
1. New York Giants
The Giants are at the top of this list because of Eli Manning and what he can do if their offensive line improves even just a little bit from last season. Out of all the starting quarterbacks in this division, Eli is the best. As far as their backup goes, Ryan Nassib hasn’t had much of an opportunity to prove himself if Manning should get injured, but he’s young and certainly has what they call “arm talent.” That’s not to say the Giants aren’t worried about Manning going down with an injury, but with Manning’s injury history, or the lack thereof, it’s not something keeping the New York coaching staff up at night.
