Projected Chicago Bears Fantasy Surprise

It remains to be seen just how much the addition of new head coach Marc Trestman will mean for the Chicago Bears success on the field this upcoming season. He has no NFL experience as a head coach and was "stuck" in Montreal over the past five seasons.

One thing we do know that will happen is that Chicago's offense will be more of the pass-first variety under Trestman's leadership.

He led the No. 1 overall pass offenses in San Francisco back in 1995 and Oakland in 2002 and has seen his offenses rank in the top 10 five different times throughout his career as a coordinator in the NFL.

For Trestman, it's all about shorter timing routes, bubble screens and slant patterns.

Interestingly enough, those are the three things that seem to define Alshon Jeffery's game. The former South Carolina product is physically imposing at 6'4" and 230 pounds. He gets off the line of scrimmage extremely well and does a great job separating from the defender at the point of contact.

He should excel in Trestman's offense.

Despite battling through injuries as a rookie in 2012, Jeffery did come down with 24 receptions for 367 yards and three scores. Those numbers don't tell the entire story. Jeffery only caught 50 percent of the passes thrown in his direction, which represented the lowest catch rate of any Bears' receiver.

It's important to note here that Jeffery only caught 25 percent of the passes that traveled 20 yards or more. He did, however, bring in 66 percent of the passes thrown to him that didn't travel 20 yards.

These are the majority of the targets that Jeffery will receive this upcoming season under Trestman.

Outside of those advanced statistics, Jeffery is now firmly entrenched in as the Bears' No. 2 starter behind Brandon Marshall. He'll easily average more than the 4.8 targets he received per game last season.

Look for Jeffery to accumulate a minimum of 96 targets this season; a vast majority of them going for under that 20-yard plateau. If so, it makes sense that he'll be able to haul in 65 passes for 850 yards and six scores.
