Projected Detroit Lions Fantasy Dud

Every year, the common misconception seems to be, “If we need a pass catcher, just take someone from the Detroit Lions. Where in theory it seems like a valid point, the deeper you look the more information you may find that does not solidify the idea.

This is especially the case for Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew. This is Pettigrew’s fifth year in the NFL, and he has not lived up to what seems to be lofty expectations every season. Last season Pettigrew landed 59 catches, which is good for a tight end. But considering he had 100 targets you would think he could amass more than 567 yards and a miniscule three touchdowns. In his career, Pettigrew has just 14 touchdowns in 391 targets, by comparison, Kyle Rudolph has 12 touchdowns in 132 targets.

Brandon Pettigrew’s current ADP (average draft position) has rapidly fallen to 13.07. Take the advice. Do not draft him in a standard league, especially to be your starting tight end.  The other tight ends available near his ADP are far more valuable. Within 15 picks of Pettigrew are: Martellus Bennett, Fred Davis, and Tyler Eifert. All of who have higher fantasy ceilings than Pettigrew.

If you needed any other reason to not like Pettigrew for the upcoming season, Pro Football Focus had Pettigrew rated 61st of 62 tight ends in the passing game last season with a rating of -10.0 in the passing game.  Last season Pettigrew had nine drops and fumbled the ball four times. This is not a fantasy player you want on your team. Go elsewhere at the tight end position.
