The San Francisco 49ers lost season may be on the verge of taking yet another ugly turn. One day following a 27-6 loss to the St. Louis Rams and mere minutes following the trade of Vernon Davis to the Denver Broncos, at least one report is indicating that running back Carlos Hyde could miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury he suffered against the Baltimore Ravens back in Week 6.
What makes this specific situation so alarming is the fact that San Francisco kept Hyde in the game after he suffered the injury. It then played him against the Seattle Seahawks the following Thursday — just a few short days later.
At 2-6 on the season, San Francisco would likely be best served sitting Hyde for the remainder of the year. He's one of the very few building blocks on the offensive side of the ball for the downtrodden franchise.
With Hyde sidelined and Reggie Bush potentially sidelined with a torn ACL, San Francisco's running back situation is a hot mess. Add in the fractured hand Mike Davis suffered and the release of Jarryd Hayne on Saturday, and there's not much hope for any sort of progression at running back moving forward.
