Report: Drew Brees has Torn Plantar Fascia in Foot

It's possible that New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has played his final snap of the season.

The future Hall of Famer suffered a foot injury in the first half of the team's game against the Detroit Lions on Monday night. And while Brees did remain in the game, he did note after the game that said injury would require an MRI on Tuesday.

ESPN's Ed Werder is now reporting that Brees suffered a torn plantar fascia in right foot:

As Werder indicated, this is a similar injury to the one that has kept Peyton Manning out the past several weeks in Denver.

And while each player responds to injuries in a different manner, it's hard to imagine that Brees will be able to suit up for the final two games of the year.

With that said, Brees did say on Tuesday that he wants to play in the final two outings, both of which are pretty meaningless outside of draft positioning.

It is possible that Brees' intentions of playing has more to do with the potential that this will be his final season with the Saints. Based on rumors out of New Orleans, Sean Payton may be out of a job. If so, it stands to reason that the Saints would part way with Brees, who is due a huge cap hit next season.

If Brees is unable to go over the final two games, Matt Flynn will likely be under center for the Saints.
