It looked bad when it happened Sunday afternoon. Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell came down awkwardly on his right knee against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was taken off to the locker room on a stretcher, and didn't return to the action.
Pittsburgh's worst possible fears were realized after the game, as NFL Media's Ian Rapoport is reporting that Bell suffered a badly torn MCL and other damage to his knee on the play.
He's reportedly lost for the season.
This comes on the same day that Ben Roethlisberger returned to the field after missing the past four games with a knee injury of his own. With over 2,800 total yards in his past 21 games, this is a major blow for a Steelers team that has had some horrendous injury luck this year.
With Bell sidelined, DeAngelo Williams will be Pittsburgh's primary ball carrier moving forward this season. Williams, who is a must pick up in fantasy leagues, put up 204 rushing yards in the Steelers' first two games with Bell suspended. At the very least, Pittsburgh has a solid backup plan here.
