Going from the New England Patriots to the Indianapolis Colts won't make Reggie Wayne many friends back in Indy, but it's not like his former team gave him much of a choice.
Coming off a 2014 season that saw him put up 64 receptions for 779 yards and just two scores, the Colts made it clear that they didn't have any intention to re-sign the 36-year-old pass catcher. Now that we are halfway through the preseason, it became somewhat of a foregone conclusion that Wayne's career was over.
Not so fast:
In the stealth-like manner in which they operate, the New England Patriots have reportedly signed Wayne to a one-year deal.
Operating a bit short-handed with Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and Brandon LaFell all sitting out the team's preseason game this past weekend, New England was linked to Wayne over the weekend. As it relates to LaFell, he remains on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list with an undisclosed injury.
Wayne isn't a re-draft option at this point. He struggled a great deal last season after tearing his ACL back in 2013. Slowed by a triceps injury, the future Hall of Famer put up career-worst numbers. He did so with an elite signal caller in Andrew Luck under center.
Though, this might be something to monitor down the road. If Tom Brady is able to quickly create a relationship with Wayne, it's possible the latter could get a ton of snaps as the team's primary outside receiver. That would quickly place him on the fantasy radar.
