In the most surprising news of final cuts thus far, the San Francisco 49ers have reportedly released veteran defensive tackle Darnell Dockett.
The 34-year-old veteran, who had played his entire career in an Arizona Cardinals uniform, signed a two-year, $7.3 million contract with San Francisco after he couldn't come to an agreement with the Cardinals on a new contract.
Slowed down during the summer while recovering from a torn ACL last year, Dockett's roster spot was left in question after he suffered a rib injury last week.
With the amount of young talent and depth on San Francisco's defensive line, it made little sense for the team to keep him around.
His contract called for $2 million guaranteed with some offsets that should lower that figure.
In 11 NFL seasons, Dockett has earned three Pro Bowl appearances while racking up 40.5 sacks. It remains to be seen whether this is the end of the line for him.
