Already without first-round pick Breshad Perriman, the Baltimore Ravens were dealt two more blows with Michael Campanaro being placed on injured reserve and leading receiver Steve Smith being diagnosed with multiple broken ribs.
Smith suffered the injury during Thursday night's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The injury was likely caused when Smith took a helmet directly to his back, causing him to go down in pain and be checked out by trainers, he was unable to return to the game.
He has far and away been Baltimore's best receiver this season, leading the team in receptions (29), targets (47) and receiving yards (373). He has a 373-165 yard advantage over the Ravens next leading receiver Kamar Aiken.
Of course because this is Smith, four broken ribs will not keep him off the field for long. He is known as one of the toughest players out there who will play through pain and tell an opponent to "Ice up son". ESPN's Ed Werder reported Smith is expected back "sooner than later"
Until his return, which could still be Week 5 with Baltimore having 10 days before its next game, Kamar Aiken figures to be Baltimore's go-to in the passing game.
