On the same day that the Seattle Seahawks lost lost tight end Jimmy Graham for the season with a torn patellar tendon in his right knee, it looks like the game's best tight end may be out for a substantial period of time as well.
Late in the fourth quarter of his team's game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday night, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had to leave the field on a cart after landing awkwardly on his knee.
While it's obviously way too early to tell one way or another what went wrong here, the Patriots were quick to rule Gronkowski out for the remainder of the game.
When on the field, Gronk is one of the most dominating football players in the NFL. Unfortunately, he's suffered through multiple injuries throughout his Hall of Fame caliber career.
It remains to be seen exactly how long Gronkowski will be out or the significance of the injury he suffered.
What we do know is that Tom Brady entered Sunday's game with three of his top receiving options pretty much lost for the season. Dion Lewis is out for the year with a torn ACL. Meanwhile, Julian Edelman went down with a knee injury back in Week 10 and may be out until the postseason. Following Edelman's injury, Danny Amendola suffered a knee injury himself last week.
If Gronkowski is out for an extensive period of time, it might just be too much for Brady to overcome.
Sadly, that's been the story around the NFL this season.
