The New England Patriots avoided a devastating blow to their offense when tight end Rob Gronkowski's scary knee injury was diagnosed as a simple knee sprain. He will not miss the season and will be ready for the playoffs, but the Patriots announced on Friday he would miss Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
This was expected, Gronkowski told reporters he would not be back until his knee was at 100 percent. It's the smart move, New England is still atop the AFC and with a soft schedule for the remainder of the season, they should still be able to lock up a first-round bye without Gronkowski for a few weeks.
With Gronkowski out, fantasy owners turn their attention to Scott Chandler. He will be a popular play in DFS given how cheap he is and Tom Brady will certainly target him, but it might be more important for the Patriots to use this game to establish the running game and have Brady work with his wide receivers more.
Chandler should still be a top-10 tight end this week given the matchup and how thin the position can be. If Julian Edelman is active, he should see even more targets with Gronkowski out and looks like a top-15 wide receiver in PPR leagues for Week 13.
