Robert Griffin III: Instant Fantasy Impact

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III Went down with what appears to be a serious left ankle injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon.

The injury, which can be seen below, is reportedly a dislocated ankle.

Warning: It's rather gruesome.

Everyone will talk about what the injury means for RGIII's career moving forward and whether he will be able to bounce back from yet another major injury setback.

Reports indicate that he could very well be lost for the season, especially if you look at recent dislocated ankle injuries around the NFL.

In terms of the impact to your dynasty team long term, this doesn't change a whole lot. Don't go out there and make the snap judgement of dropping RGIII. With that said, let's hope you have a solid QB2 option and one of the first selections in the waiver wire process. Simply put, most were relying on the young quarterback to be their primary starter this season.

With RGIII potentially lost for the season, Kirk Cousins becomes a logical option to pick up through the waiver process in standard leagues. Cousins completed 22-of-33 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns in Washington's 41-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

To put that into perspective, Cousins led the Redskins to three touchdowns in his first four possessions. That's the same amount of scores that RGIII had led Washington to in his previous 56 possessions.

Cousins has now tallied 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in nine career games (four starts). But the Redskins offense looks like a better unit with him on the field instead of RGIII.

The idea behind picking Cousins up in standard re-draft leagues is to utilize him as a potential QB2, especially if you had RGIII pegged as your starter and had to move your QB2 into that role.

While I would normally suggest going away from utilizing the philosophy of replacing one player with his teammate, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of options out there.

Sure Derek Carr may be available on the waiver wire, especially if you are in a standard 12-team league. But is he really that much of a better option than Cousins at this point? Outside of that, your options may be limited.

Player Team Owned
Derek Carr Raiders 4.6
Eli Manning Giants 15.1
Joe Flacco Ravens 17.9
Jake Locker Titans 18.0
Carson Palmer Cardinals 28.4
Johnny Manziel Browns 28.6

Out of that group, Flacco and Locker are likely your two best options. But do you really want to rely on either of them right now? Locker is playing well, but he's injury prone. Meanwhile, Flacco is about as inconsistent at the quarterback position as you can get.

Remember, you're only going to rely on Cousins to be a bye-week or injury replacement. This will enable you to throw him out there and hope for the best. With Flacco, it will be more about matchups than anything. And that could leave you out in the cold.

Palmer missed Week 2 against the New York Giants with nerve damage to his throwing shoulder. I am not touching that injury whatsoever.

If you were relying on RGIII to be anything more than a bottom-tier QB1 this season, you were already in trouble. While Cousins doesn't have the sample size, he might be able to offer that upside. The good news here is that you likely won't need that if you already had a solid QB2 option on your roster.
