Russell Wilson Fantasy Football Profile

Seattle Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson burst onto the scene in a big way in 2012, proving all of the doubters wrong en route to winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and setting the rookie quarterback touchdown record with 26.  The third-round pick finished the season ranked in the top 10 in passing touchdowns, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.  Wilson also finished ranked as the 10th best fantasy quarterback with 276 total points and 17 points per week.  With a year of experience under his belt, and a bevy of talent surrounding him, can Wilson continue his meteoric rise? If so, for how long? Let’s find out.

2013 Outlook

Naysayers like to point to the loss of offseason acquisition, Percy Harvin, to injury, but fantasy owners shouldn’t be concerned.  Wilson is headed into this 2013 with the exact same offensive squad he had last season, plus a healthy Zach Miller at tight end.  Even without Harvin, Sidney Rice, Golden Tate, Doug Baldwin and rookie Chris Harper will be more than enough to get the job done.

Wilson will also be able to rely on a possibly four-headed rushing attack, spearheaded by Marshawn Lynch.  The Seahawks’ potent running game will open up big holes in the defense for Wilson to exploit with his arm and legs.  Seattle’s defense is also good enough to force a ton of three-and-outs, which will only allow Wilson more time on the field to pad his stats.

Dynasty Outlook

At this point, the sky is really the limit with Wilson.  His floor is basically his rookie season: 3,600 all-purpose yards and 30 total touchdowns.  As the offense continues to grow and flourish under Pete Carroll, Wilson’s numbers will get better and better.  The eventual return of Harvin definitely doesn’t hurt.  This is a young team with good chemistry that should stick together for a decent amount of time, which makes Wilson extremely valuable long term.

2013 Statistical Projections: 3,700 passing yards, 29 passing touchdowns, 550 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.
