The New Orleans Saints have reportedly moved on from high-priced free agent running back C.J. Spiller. He was inactive for the team's season-opening loss to the Oakland Raiders and quickly fell out of favor after signing a four-year, $16 million deal in March of 2015.
With Spiller now in the outs in New Orleans, the expectation has to be that Mark Ingram will continue to be a three-down back for the Saints. That's huge for his fantasy value.
Ingram put up 87 yards on just 14 touches for New Orleans on Sunday. Though, a lot of that had to do with the tempo of the game and Oakland's inability to stop Drew Brees in the passing game.
As long as New Orleans finds a way to improve on defense, Ingram should consistently reach the 20-touch mark per game. The release of Spiller magnifies this even further.
In one-plus season with the Saints, Spiller accounted for 351 total yards on 70 touches.
