Tennessee Titans Fire Ken Whisenhunt

After a 1-6 start to the season, the Tennessee Titans have fired head coach Ken Whisenhunt. It comes with the veteran coach less than a year and a half into his tenure with the team.

“After thoughtful consideration, the decision has been made to relieve Ken Whisenhunt of his head coaching duties,” owner Amy Adams Strunk said, via the Titans official website. “We have expected more progress on the field, and I felt it was time to move in a different direction. I would like to thank Ken for his efforts with our team, as he worked very hard to try to move us forward.”

Assistant head coach Mike Mularkey will take over for Whisenhunt on an interim basis.

In his year-plus with the Titans, Whisenhunt posted a horrendous 3-20 record. In fact, he's lost 31 of his past 34 games dating back to 2012 with the Arizona Cardinals.

It's highly unlikely that Mularkey will find a way to catch on with the full-time gig here. Tennessee remains an attractive destination due to its location in the Nashville area and the presence of a potential franchise quarterback in Marcus Mariota. The team will also likely find itself with a top-five pick when the 2016 NFL draft comes calling.
