Top 5 Fantasy Tight Ends for Week 5

1. Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints

2013 Statistics: 27 receptions, 458 yards and six touchdowns

Graham is the No. 1 fantasy tight end until proven otherwise. He might be going up against a Chicago Bears defense that ranks in the top half of the NFL against fantasy tight ends, but that doesn't really matter. Fresh off the first Player of the Month Award for someone at his position, Graham is redefining what it means to be an electric receiving threat. He's on pace for nearly 2,000 receiving yards at the quarter point of the season and is the No. 1 fantasy tight end by a robust 12 points.

Projected Statistics: Seven receptions, 115 yards and one touchdown

2. Julius Thomas, Denver Broncos

2013 Statistics: 18 receptions, 237 yards and four touchdowns

Despite being the third-best fantasy tight end through four weeks, it seems that Thomas is riding the coattails of his Week 1 performance against the Baltimore Ravens. He put up nearly as many fantasy points in that single game as he has over the past three weeks. Over the course of those three weeks, Thomas has finished sixth, seventh and 24th in fantasy points. Why do I have him as the second-ranked tight end in Week 5? Well it is pretty simple. Thomas has been a TE1 in three of his first four games and is going up against a Dallas Cowboys defense that has yielded the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season. While it might not be on par with his Week 1 performance, Thomas will put up some stellar numbers against Dallas on Sunday.

Projected Statistics: Six receptions, 100 yards and one touchdown

3. Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers

2013 Statistics: 16 receptions, 194 yards and one touchdown (three games)

If you put it into perspective, Olsen has been one of the most consistent overall tight ends thus far this season. He's averaging over five receptions and 65 yards per outing. The reason why Carolina's tight end is flying under the radar is because he's put up just one touchdown. That needs to change if the former first-round pick is going to be an elite fantasy option moving forward. The good news here is that Olsen is going up against an Arizona Cardinals defense that is giving up an average of 97 yards and one score to opposing tight ends. That' ranks them second-to-last in the entire NFL. Expect a big game from Olsen in this one.

Projected Statistics: Six receptions, 90 yards and one touchdown

4. Jared Cook, St. Louis Rams

2013 Statistics: 17 receptions, 240 yards and two touchdowns

Much like what we have seen with Julius Thomas, it appears that Cook's Week 1 performance might have been a bit of a mirage. After putting up the most fantasy points among tight ends against the Cardinals that week, Cook has ranked 20th, 23rd and 40th in fantasy points. With that said, Cook faces a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that is yielding an average of 63 yards and one score to opposing tight ends this season. For his part, Cook has done more on average against his former division rivals than any other team in the NFL. That may also bode well for the talented tight end.

Projected Statistics: Five receptions, 72 yards and one touchdown

5. Charles Clay, Miami Dolphins

2013 Statistics: 20 receptions, 245 yards and one touchdown

Don't look now, but Clay has now recorded the sixth-most receptions among tight ends in the NFL this season. While he's averaging just 12 yards per catch, the fullback/tight end hybrid is quickly becoming one of Ryan Tannehill's favorite targets. As with most young quarterbacks, the former first-round pick will continue to look at the tight end until it doesn't work anymore. For his part, Clay is the eighth-ranked fantasy tight end through four weeks. He now goes up against a Baltimore Ravens defense that is in the bottom 12 of the NFL against fantasy tight ends. Expect another solid TE1 day from the youngster.

Projected Statistics: Five receptions, 57 yards and one touchdowm
