Top Week 2 Fantasy Football Waiver-Wire Adds

Carson Wentz, Quarterback, Philadelphia Eagles

We really don't want to read too much into one game, especially a game against the Cleveland Browns. But what Wentz did in his NFL debut less than a week after being named the team's starter was nothing short of amazing. The rookie No. 2 overall pick completed 22-of-37 passes for 278 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Matthews and a 35-yard scoring stirke to Nelson Agholor

Wentz also didn't turn the ball over a single time through the air, finishing as Sunday's 11th-best fantasy quarterback. That's just exceptional for a dude that was starting at North Dakota State less than a calendar year ago.

Looking forward, Wentz has some favorable matchups that should continue to make him a fantasy relevant option.

4 Steelers 21st
5 Lions 19th
6 Redskins 23rd

We wouldn't go as far as to say pick Wentz up off the waiver wire and start him. We also might suggest waiting until after his Week 3 bye. But the level of competition coming here isn't all too good. And based off what we saw from Wentz on Sunday, he might very well be fantasy relevant as a rookie.

Alex Smith, Quarterback, Kansas City Chiefs

Smith finished Sunday's action as the third-best fantasy quarterback behind Andrew Luck and Drew Brees. He did so while leading Kansas City from an 18-point deficit against the San Diego Chargers. Overall, Smith completed 34-of-48 passes for 363 yards with three total scores. He connected with eight different pass catchers with less than half of those going to wide receivers.

This is surely a sign that Smith has found a way to up his game from previous seasons, at least when it comes to the fake football world. Though, anyone looking to pick Smith up off the waiver wire to start should be cautioned that he's slated to take on The Houston Texans next week. After that, the veteran has favorable matchups for the next month-plus.

3 Jets 10th
4 Steelers 21st
6 Raiders 24th
7 Saints 32nd
8 Colts 25th

Maybe pick Smith up off the waiver wire this week and see how he performs against a stout Texans defense. If he's solid from a fantasy standpoint there, this might be more than just a mirage, making him a decent bye week and injury replacement. If not, no harm, no foul.

Spencer Ware, Running Back, Kansas City Chiefs

With Jamaal Charles potentially sitting yet another week after recovering from last season's torn ACL, Ware will likely continue being the Chiefs' starting running back over the short term. If his Week 1 performance against the San Diego Chargers is any indication, this will make Ware a relevant fantasy option over the next couple weeks.

Ware put up 199 total yards and a score, finishing the day as the NFL's top fantasy running back. In PPR contests, he was even more outstanding. The former Seattle Seahawks sixth-round pick caught seven of the eight passes thrown to him for 129 yards in the win. That's probably the most-important aspect here.

If Ware has indeed found a connection with Alex Smith through the air, it's going to make him a PPR stud until Charles returns to full health.

Tevin Coleman, Running Back, Atlanta Falcons

Devonta Freeman may have finished last season as the top fantasy running back, but that was a mirage more than anything else. This was made evident in Week 1 when Coleman put up 14 touches compared to Freeman's 15. All said, Coleman gained 117 total yards on those touches compared to just 40 for Freeman.

We're really going to want to see how the touches are split up here over the short term. Based off what we saw in Atlanta's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it's readily apparent Coleman is the more productive back right now. He's also turned into a bit of a PPR stud, having put up five receptions for 95 yards on six targets.

Michael Thomas, Wide Receiver, New Orleans Saints

Thomas may still be the Saints' No. 3 receiver behind Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead, but he made the most of his opportunities against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. The rookie second-round pick tallied six receptions for 58 yards on six targets. He was part of a trio that ended up catching 21 of the 24 passes thrown their way.

This should be a representation of just how well the Saints' receivers are going to perform from a fantasy perspective moving forward, especially given the team's disastrous defense. With a ton of target opportunities and after exceeding expectations during the summer, Thomas is definitely worth a shot on the waiver wire.

Will Fuller, Wide Receiver, Houston Texans

Yet another rookie receiver that proved his worth in his regular season debut. Fuller may have caught less than 50 percent of the balls thrown his way, but he made the most of those catches. The rookie first-round pick hauled in five receptions for 107 yards and a score Sunday against the Chicago Bears. That was good enough for him to rank seventh among receivers in fantasy points.

More than this, Fuller actually outpaced DeAndre Hopkins in targets, 11-8. You don't need to be a genius to understand what this means. Clearly, with teams focused more on Hopkins, Fuller will see a ton of one-on-one opportunities on the other side. That makes him a high-upside waiver add heading into Week 2.

Quincy Enunwa, Wide Receiver, New York Jets

Enunwa, a sixth-round pick in the 2014 draft, actually matched Brandon Marshall for the most targets for New York on Sunday. All said, he hauled in seven of the eight passes thrown his way for 54 yards and a touchdown.

The yardage totals might be worrisome here, but it's important to note that Enunwa did catch a high percentage of the balls thrown his way. He also saw a ton of action in three-wide sets while finding a way to reach the end zone.

Jacob Tamme, Tight End, Atlanta Falcons

Until Matt Ryan stops targeting Tamme, he's going to be a fantasy relevant tight end. That was evident last season when the veteran put up 59 receptions for 667 yards. It also become clear in Week 1, with Tamme tallying six receptions for 51 yards on eight targets.

It's the high target numbers that should help you decide that Tamme is worth a potential roster spot. If he finds a way to actually score touchdowns (11 in nine NFL seasons), he'd become a decent TE1 option. As it is, maybe pick him up if you're struggling at this position early in the year.
