Redskins at Eagles

The City of Brotherly Love, eh?

Well, let's just see how much "love" Donovan McNabb receives on Sunday when he returns to a place he called home for 11 years.

Of course, McNabb will not be wearing the Midnight green of the Philadelphia Eagles. Instead, the veteran quarterback will don the burgundy and gold of the Washington Redskins - a vision which often brings out the worst in the most ardent Eagles fan.

Six months after being traded for a second-round pick in 2010 and either a third- or fourth-round selection in 2011, McNabb will guide the Redskins (1-2) into Lincoln Financial Field to face the Eagles (2-1) in a key NFC East battle.

When asked how he would be received, McNabb told the Washington Post on Tuesday that he expects to hear more cheers than jeers.

His reasoning? His resume, not his attire.

"Honestly, I think that I would be cheered ... more cheered than booed," McNabb said. "No matter what the situation is right now, that I'm with a different team and obviously it's kind of a rival, and it wasn't by my choice.

"But the whole deal about it was 11 years. It was a successful 11 years. And you had a lot of great times, a lot of great moments (and) a lot of exciting plays. Obviously, some down times, but you have that in the NFL. But there's more exciting things that happened in 11 years."

The personable quarterback had been the face of the Eagles' franchise since 1999, leading them to five NFC title games and one Super Bowl. He had thrown for 32,873 yards and 216 touchdowns in 11 seasons.

No sooner than Philadelphia agreed to the deal than it proclaimed Kevin Kolb as McNabb's successor. Kolb promptly suffered a concussion during the Eagles' season opener against the Green Bay Packers.

The injury opened the door for Michael Vick, who has stepped in and was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month after recording a 110.2 passer rating.

In his first start since 2006, Vick completed 21 of 34 passes for 284 yards with two touchdowns in a 35-32 triumph over the Detroit Lions in Week 2. The former top pick of the 2001 draft, Vick upped the ante last week, accounting for four touchdowns - three passing, one rushing - as the Eagles won their second straight with a 28-3 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

One of Vick's touchdown passes landed in the arms of Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who admitted back in May that he was "very happy with the decision" to send McNabb to the nation's capital.

Taking it a step further, Jackson said, "I don't think we lost anything, even with McNabb being gone."

McNabb elected to take the high road in his response - well, with a small jab mixed in.

"It's so wild when people get to talking when you're not there, but when you're there, everybody loves you," McNabb said at the time.

"So I guess people will go deeper into it than I will. I'm a Redskin, no longer an Eagle. I had 11 great years and I'm moving on with my life, so whoever may say things when I'm gone, more power to them, but it's not making you look like a bigger man."

While the Eagles have won two in a row, the Redskins had dropped their last pair - including an ugly 30-16 decision to the perpetually woeful St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
