Texans at Jaguars

The Houston Texans boast the league's leading rusher in Arian Foster. Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard has been plagued by inconsistent play all season.

But neither of those facts is likely to stop the Texans and Jaguars from engaging in a pass-happy shootout when they meet in a key AFC South contest Sunday in Jacksonville.

Houston has the worst pass defense in the league, allowing 298.3 yards per game through the air, and the Jaguars aren't much better, ranking 28th with 267.1 passing yards allowed per game.

Despite the difficulty stopping the pass - always a concern when playing in the same division as Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts - the Texans and Jaguars remain within one game of the Colts and Tennessee Titans in the crowded AFC South standings.

The Texans (4-4) didn't have much luck in a shootout with San Diego last week, even with Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers missing most of his favorite targets. Rivers still managed 295 yards and four touchdowns, sending Houston to a 29-23 home loss.

Foster, who leads the NFL in rushing yards (864), yards from scrimmage (147.4 per game) and rushing touchdowns (nine), has topped 100 rushing yards in the past two games but it hasn't kept the Texans from enduring back-to-back losses.

Houston needs to get quarterback Matt Schaub going along with Foster, and facing Jacksonville's struggling pass defense could do the trick. In four games against the Jaguars, Schaub has completed 69.9 percent of his passes for 1,073 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions.

Schaub has thrown interceptions in each of the past two losses, and the Texans are 2-4 this season when he throws at least one interception.

He'll be going against a Jacksonville defense that lost its best pass rusher when Aaron Kampman suffered a torn knee ligament in Thursday's practice. The team's leader with four sacks, he is done for the season.

The Jaguars (4-4) have faced the same problem with Garrard - they're 1-3 when he throws a pick - but that wasn't an issue in their last game.

After missing Jacksonville's 42-20 loss at Kansas City in Week 7, Garrard threw four touchdown passes and no interceptions in a 35-17 win at Dallas in Week 8, sending the Jaguars into their bye week on a good note after consecutive losses.

Mike Sims-Walker was Garrard's favorite target against the Cowboys, piling up a career-high 153 receiving yards and catching a touchdown pass for the second game in a row.

The teams have split 16 all-time meetings, but Jacksonville has won four of the past six and the last three at home, including a 23-18 home win in the most recent game last December.
