Ravens 10, Jets 9

Willis McGahee scored the game’s only touchdown and the Baltimore Ravens used a suffocating defensive performance to knock off the New York Jets 10-9 on Monday night at the New Meadowlands Stadium.

The Ravens held the Jets to just six first downs, tying for the fewest in team history, and limited New York quarterback Mark Sanchez to just 74 yards passing.

Joe Flacco threw for 248 yards on 20-of-38 passing and Anquan Boldin had seven receptions for 110 yards in his debut with Baltimore.

Billy Cundiff’s 25-yard field goal with 7:07 remaining in the third quarter provided the decision points for the Ravens.

Nick Folk supplied all of the offense for the Jets with field goals of 23, 28 and 48 yards, but they were set up by a fumble recovery and two good punt returns by safety Jim Leonhard.

The Ravens overcame three turnovers to take a 7-6 lead into halftime when McGahee capped an 11-play drive with a 1-yard plunge with six seconds to play.

Two big penalties - running into the kicker and pass interference in the end zone - on the Jets were pivotal in the drive.

The Jets had just three first downs and fewer total yards (91) than penalty yards (100) in the opening half.

New York’s best offensive weapon was punter Steve Weatherford, who averaged 45 yards on six punts and consistenly put the Ravens in poor field position.
