Panthers 19, Cardinals 12

The Carolina Panthers rode the leg of John Kasay past the visiting Arizona Cardinals 19-12 on Sunday.

Kasay booted four field goals as the Panthers (2-12) snapped a seven-game losing streak. Kasay kicked two short field goals for the only scoring in the first quarter.

Rookie Jimmy Clausen finished 13 for 19 for 141 yards. He threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jeff King midway through the second quarter to extend the Panthers’ lead to 13-0.

The Panthers limited rookie quarterback John Skelton and the Cardinals' offense to nine first downs, most of which came in the fourth quarter.

Arizona (4-10) cut the deficit to 19-9 early in the fourth quarter when Skelton passed to Tim Hightower. Hightower fumbled the ball but it was recovered by Steve Breaston in the end zone for a touchdown.

Skelton finished 17 for 33 passing for 196 yards.

Arizona got a field goal from Jay Feely, his second of the game, with 54 seconds to play to cut the deficit to 19-12 but the Cardinals failed to recover the ensuing onside kick.
