2012 NHL Twitter All-Star Team

2012 NHL Twitter All-Star Team

Hey hockey fans, there’s still no NHL! Just checking to see if you still knew that. While we should all be preparing for the Winter Classic in Ann Arbor, instead the NHL “mega-minds” are reportedly not meeting in an undisclosed location.

Quite a sense of urgency for the NHL brain trust that has now reduced the integrity of their brand to the same level as the Lingerie Football League. No offense ladies.

The latest and greatest reports coming out of the labor discussions have both sides meeting separately and feeling pessimistic about progress. Games have been cancelled through the end of 2012, and it seems there will be more to come. It’s not yet a certainty that the season is lost, but at this point the last morsel (or turd if you wish) is spiraling downwards into the abyss.

That will be my Debbie Downer soapbox moment for the day. Instead, I’ll focus on my 2012 Twitter NHL All-Star team. I will rank the top players by position based solely on the awesomeness of their tweets and Twitter page in general. There will be no NHL until 2013 (sometime), but these guys will still exercise their 28th Amendment right to tweet. Did Congress ratify that one yet?

Left Wing-Paul Bissonnette- (@BizNasty2point0) The reigning Twitter MVP of the NHL, Bissonnette offers a fresh take daily on hockey, ladies, nightlife and general philosophy. He’s a great follow even for non-hockey fans.

Center-Logan Couture- (@Logancouture) The young San Jose Sharks star center man tweets every day and always has a humorous take on teammates, fellow players and topical news and celebrities.

Right Wing-George Parros- (@GeorgeParros) The Princeton Tiger tough guy now chills in South Beach instead of South Los Angeles. Parros is always good for some celebrity sightings and moustache grooming tips.

Defense-Mike Commodore- (@Commie22) Though his relevance as an NHL defenseman may be on the decline, Commodore is a daily tweeter who is constantly chirping at anyone and everyone.

Defense-Mike Green- (@GreenLife52) Though he hasn’t been as active lately, Mike Green of the Washington Capitals is a regular on the social media scene. His last tweet was an open invite to all fans to come to a northern Virginia bar for a benefit party. Green ended up picking up the tab for the entire evening. Great dude, great follow.

Goalie-Henrik Lundqvist- (@HLundqvist30) The rare combination of All-Star caliber player and All-Star tweeter (ererer?) Lundqvist has been particularly vocal on the lockout and has been very active in the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
