The preliminary rounds of the Olympic hockey tournament wrapped up Sunday with relatively little fanfare. Most of the medal round spots had been secured with only the seeding left in doubt.

For all the fanfare created by the dramatic United States-Russia game, it actually carried little more significance other than to announce to the world that the Americans were certainly not afraid of an international ice surface. T.J Oshie’s incredible shootout performance was certainly memorable, but it will be only a YouTube clip if the American team fails to parlay their round-robin momentum into a serious run to the gold medal.
