Fantasy Hockey Profile: Milan Lucic

With a nickname like “Looch” do you imagine a friendly, gentlemanly chap who enjoys a nice Chardonnay and the smooth styling's of Celine Dion?

Yeah, me neither. Milan Lucic patrols the left wing for the Boston Bruins with a mean streak a mile wide. Don’t sell him short as just a plug that can mix it up. Lucic actually has some game too.

With back-to-back 60-point seasons, the Bruins' power forward has become something of a commodity in the fantasy world too. Lucic obviously excels in the physical part of the game, so hits and penalty minutes (if applicable) are part of his nightly routine.
His bull charge of Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller earned him a bullseye courtesy of Sabre-nation. Miller took almost half the season to recover from the concussion he suffered due to the hit. The Sabres almost completely retooled their roster for the specific purpose of “Lucic-proofing” their team this summer. Steve Ott and John Scott will help answer the bell the next time the Sabres and Bruins play, looking to return the favor from over a year ago.

That should be just fine for Milan Lucic who never seems to have a dance partner that he won’t punch in the face…. repeatedly. His hits went up this past season along with his penalty minutes while Lucic’s shots declined just a bit.

The emergence of Tyler Seguin as the Bruin’s leading sniper shouldn’t affect his role too much in Boston. Seguin’s break out year came a year after Lucic’s, but the two aren’t on the ice at the same time.

At only 24 years of age, Lucic’s stock is still on the rise. I imagine some of the friskiness will subside as he gets older, but he’ll have a few more dance partners to oblige before his career is through.
